about

Being within a mile of Dublin would most likely be associated with traffic today but I'm sure excitement and anticipation would fill the minds of anyone who would rarely visit the city while in that location. I can remember driving through the Holland Tunnel with my parents anxiously awaiting to emerge into the manic city. Although Rafferty never called this first tune "Within A Mile of Dublin," it's definitely a version if not a cousin. Rafferty called the second tune "Follow Me Down to Carlow" although it's strikingly similar to "Tom Ward's Downfall," the name Michael Coleman had for it. I often think of what led to poor Tom Ward's downfall.
